The Travelling Cat Chronicles

A man and his beloved cat have hopped into their silver van, and are off on a great adventure. Their destination is unknown to Nana, a incorrigible, handsome, almost-tabby cat with a deep love for his human, Satoru.

Throughout the journey, the two make a few pit stops to visit some beloved friends of Satoru’s- each burdened with the past in some way. Narrated mainly from Nana’s straightforward, unapologetic point of view, we humans are able to take a step back and look at life’s seemingly complex situations through the eyes of an animal who sees things for what they are.

Arikawa’s writing is wonderfully lyrical and you will find yourself easily whisked away to Japan. You will feel the ocean mist kiss your face, excite in bustling city sidewalks, find respite in cascading fields of grass and flowers... The Travelling Cat Chronicles takes you along for the ride.

With a philosophy reminiscent to the Tao, this story explores friendships, hardships, and heartbreak with a “let it be, let it rest,” mindset. There is peace to be found among these pages.

Heads up: anyone who has ever loved an animal with their entire heart might want to keep a box of tissues nearby.
