The Secret Keeper of Jaipur- Alka Joshi

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, HarperCollins, MIRA House for my ARC. I’ve been foaming at the bit in utter excitement since the announcement of Joshi’s sequel.

Namaste! Bonjour! Welcome!

The Secret of Jaipur picks up some twelve years after its predecessor. We are reunited with beloved characters, Lakshmi and Malik. Malik, now twenty, has recently fallen for a captivating young tribal woman, Nimmi, and her two endearing children. It is clear to see how taken he is with the idea of settling down. Lakshmi, forever looking out for what she believes to be his best interest, sends Malik back to Jaipur to apprentice an old friend as part of the palace facilities on the construction of the royals’ grand cinema.

After a seemingly unprecedented collapse occurs on opening night of the cinema, an innocent man and Malik’s mentor, Manu, finds fingers pointing at him. After finding more than a few things amiss, Malik begins an investigation begins to clear the name of Manu. To do so, secrets must be revealed.

Joshi more than delivers in this sequel to her masterpiece, The Henna Artist. The Secret Keeper of Jaipur was just as, if not more enchanting! I couldn’t have been more engrossed in this storyline! The Secret Keeper of Jaipur morphs into an incredibly immersive mystery with lots of heart at its root.

Joshi’s characters are just as brilliant (if not even more so) as in The Henna Artist. She’s managed to marvelously enhance their character development in an unpredictable plot. By the end of this book, many of these characters will feel like old friends and as for the rest...let’s just say, you’ll love to hate them.

This book captures human emotion so richly. Desire, greed, lust, hope, jealousy, spite, and love...they’re all apart of this irresistible ride you won’t want to miss.

(Side note: I want to be Maharani Indira when I grow up!!! She is one of my all-time favorite characters!!)
