Winter Garden- Kristin Hannah

Two sisters, Meredith and Nina, live their lives thinking their mother despised them. Why did she always withhold affection when they tried so very hard to win over their mothers love?

How could their mother have such a passionate relationship so clearly brimming with adoration for their father while she hadn’t shown an ounce of that tenderness to her own flesh and blood?

It is these unanswered questions that prompt Nina and Meredith to learn to accept that their mother will always keep them at arms length and move on in their own lives. Nina is a world famous photographer who can’t seem to settle down. Meredith is married with two daughters of her own but has grown apart from her husband. Why was this?

It is through their mother’s poignant story that she reluctantly tells her daughters as a promise to her husband, that difficult secrets are unveiled and questions are finally answered. Their mothers unfathomable account of a story the sisters had only known to be a fairy tale, takes a new form while simultaneously bandaging deep, unresolved wounds.

Winter Garden was just as wonderfully moving as I have come to expect every Kristin Hannah novel to be. Hannah has mastered creating beloved, memorable characters. This was fantastically heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. This story is one that I’m sure will take residence in my heart forever.

I highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
